Blurb:
Starting over sucks.
When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring… until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.
And then he opened his mouth.
Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something… unexpected happens.
The hot alien living next door marks me.
You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.
If I don’t kill him first, that is.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT
How do I even put into words the feels this
book gave me? Okay so I’m a few years late to the Daemon Black party
but I am here and loving this nonetheless.
The summary is pretty straight forward; New girl Katy moves to a small town with her mother and happens to be
living next door to some hot aliens.. Just
your normal story. Katy assumes that Daemon, her neighbor is just another
asshole until she gets into an accident and he literally freezes time to save
her life. Saving her life has now exposed Katy to the world of Aliens which
puts her in grave danger to a ruthless race called the Arum.
Katy was like my soul sister, I completely
adored her; she’s a book lover and blogger and gets excited to post her Waiting
on Wednesday’s. This was awesome for me as I love it when MC's are interested in
books but to read about a blogger and being excited when you get page comments
and views brings it all back!
“Beautiful face. Beautiful body. Horrible attitude. It was the
holy trinity of hot boys.”
Daemon? Hmm you know those books where the
love interest is a bit arrogant and standoffish and really doesn’t seem
interested but he’s totally into the girl? This is NOT like that at all. Daemon
is a complete dickhead, he goes out of his way to humiliate Katy and to keep
her away from his sister. Obviously he’s smoking hot and therefore gets away
with it which is a little annoying to me but Katy does in fact hold her own and
tells him what I assume we're all thinking, like
I said a dickhead!
The romance was HOT AS HELL, I fell hook,
line and sinker for Daemon Black and literally swooned at everything that came
out of his mouth all the while wishing I could punch his face! This is exactly
the romance I love, the fighting, the tension, the will they won’t they? So
much bloody angst! I devoured this book in two sittings, as I just needed to
see what would happen next.
As I’ve said Daemon is a Grade A asshole so
it pretty much depends on your taste in love interests but I wouldn’t dismiss
this book straight away if you hate the evitable girl falling for the bad boy.
Katy really is completely different from all other heroines, yes she’s
attracted to him obviously but she
doesn’t delude herself into thinking that ‘I can change him’ bullshit, she
knows he’s a douche just a Hot Douche.
The ending to me was the perfect way to make
sure you read Onyx (Book 2), no major cliffhangers just a little taster of what is to
come! I've heard that the series does get better so I can't wait to find out. Now that I have loved and finished Obsidian, I'm ordering the whole
series. I’m not sure I’m fully sold on the concept of Aliens and the topic of
beta-quartz and refracted light etc. went over my head but I still loved the story. I’ve
always been a fan of JLA and fully understand the hype these books have
caused.
“My palms itched to have a close encounter of the bitch-slap kind with his face.”
I tried this book last year (I think) and I really didn't love it... for the reasons you did love it! Haha! I couldn't stand Daemon! XD That's why blogging is so interesting, in my opinion - everyone has such differing opinions! I hope you love book two!!
ReplyDeleteTracy @ Cornerfolds
That's completely understandable, I hated him at first haha! I completely agree with you everybody reads the book differently and it's great to find out what other's think.. btw I loved your idea of a Dystopian Book Challenge I'm currently searching through my books now ;) Thanks so much :D
DeleteWELCOME TO THE DAEMON BLACK FANDOM. That's all I want to say ;)
ReplyDeleteAlso, don't know if you know it yet, but though there are officially 5 books in the series, there's also a spin off/book number 4.5 called Obsession. It's not listed as being part of the series on Goodreads, but here's the link to it anyways: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/14060046-obsession
(If you read it, make sure you read it after Origin, and not before!)
OH WHAT WOULD I DO WITHOUT YOU! It's a good job you know this because I'm really getting confused with the UK/US titles, why can't everything be the same? Onyx is next right? hahahaha!
DeleteWAIT ERIKA, Obsession is HUNTER right? I actually read this a few weeks ago I came across it on my kindle and tried it and HOLY SHIT that was book HAWT and AMAZING!!! I can't remember much more than Hunter being swoon worthy so hopefully I haven't ruined Lux for me hahaha! I'm soo doing this backwards.
Yes, the whole repackaging of the books is really confusing. It goes Obsidian, Onyx, Opal, Origin, then Opposition, but they've repackaged them in new covers, with 2 books in one (Obsidian and Onyx are combined in "Beginnings," Opal and Origin in "Consequences," and then randomly Opposition by itself but Shadows is in it too). Every reader's nightmare...
DeleteAnd yes, Obsession is about HUNTER. Like you said, HAWT. Then again, everyone male character by Jennifer L. Armentrout is hot ;)
Oh why do they feel the need to change covers and bind books together? I'm just confused hahaha, to be fair I SHOULD HAVE READ THIS A LOOONG TIME AGO!
DeleteI know the woman does not produce ugly people? But we clearly love her for the gorgeous guys ;)
ARGH, Onyx just got delivered.. heading into a Daemon coma ;) Can't Wait!
Yay yay yay! So glad you liked this one! I also loved Katy and the fact that she was a book lover AND blogger. And omg yes, the romance is hot as hell. I have been wanting to continue on with this series but haven't had the chance. I really hope to do so soon, though!
ReplyDeleteGreat review; I loved it! :D
Sophie @ Seamless Reader
I loved it Sophie, it's about time I got this excited over a new series (well new for me haha). You must carry on with the series, we can totally just fangirl over it :D Thanks so much!
DeleteYES!!!! I absolutely love the series, I've read all the books in like a week! So glad that you liked it! It only gets better from here.
ReplyDeleteIn a week? Wow! Oh I can't wait to read the others books then, they're obviously amazing.. So excited :D
DeleteI loved this book too, and honestly, I was surprised. Aliens in fiction didn't seem like it would it appeal to me. I have to read the second in the series. It has been on my shelf forever. I have to look. It may have not officially made it on my TBR. Great review.
ReplyDeleteI know, I don't think I've read anything with aliens either so I wasn't sure whether I'd enjoy it. You must get it on your shelf and carry on with the series, there's nothing but good reviews :)
DeleteDaemon Black is my ultimate fictional boyfriend. I almost want to re-read Obsidian just to experience it again. Their relationship just gets better and better throughout the series. Enjoy ;)
ReplyDeleteI totally understand why now, he really is amazing!! Oh I can't wait, I need more Daemon haha :) Thank you!
