All Etta Spencer wanted was to make her violin debut when she was thrust into a treacherous world where the struggle for power could alter history. After losing the one thing that would have allowed her to protect the Timeline, and the one person worth fighting for, Etta awakens alone in an unknown place and time, exposed to the threat of the two groups who would rather see her dead than succeed. When help arrives, it comes from the last person Etta ever expected—Julian Ironwood, the Grand Master’s heir who has long been presumed dead, and whose dangerous alliance with a man from Etta’s past could put them both at risk.

Meanwhile, Nicholas and Sophia are racing through time in order to locate Etta and the missing astrolabe with Ironwood travelers hot on their trail. They cross paths with a mercenary-for-hire, a cheeky girl named Li Min who quickly develops a flirtation with Sophia. But as the three of them attempt to evade their pursuers, Nicholas soon realizes that one of his companions may have ulterior motives.

As Etta and Nicholas fight to make their way back to one another, from Imperial Russia to the Vatican catacombs, time is rapidly shifting and changing into something unrecognizable… and might just run out on both of them.

Review

After the devastating ending to Passenger, I was soo excited for Wayfarer. I wanted that long awaited reunion early on, for Sophia to become more of a main character, to find out what the hell was happening with Julian, would we ever meet Etta’s father and just who is Rose Linden?
“The things which are denied to us in life will never create a cage for our souls.”
Wayfarer delivers all of this however I think my expectations were a little too high. Unfortunately my little ship didn’t reunite quite so early on in the book and my poor heart was disappointed. Etta and Nicholas both have their own journey’s in the book so I understood the need for separation but I found it hard after hundreds and I mean hundreds of pages to really appreciate their coming back together; it was more a feeling of FINALLY!
“We are, all of us, on our own journeys.”
My main love in Wayfarer was the secondary characters: Sophia, Li Min, Henry and Julian. I adored these bunch of misfits. However my main issue with Wayfarer was the pacing, it was just too slow for my liking. The ending was predictable but I still loved it, I’ll definitely miss these characters and I’m looking forward to see what Bracken creates next.

  1. It's funny, I told myself that I would read Passenger before Wayfarer came out, but that never happened. ARGH, what is a TBR list anyways? Wait, this series is only two books? I'm so uninformed with Bracken's work right now hahaha. Great review, Cody! :D
