Playing dirty can be the best kind of fun…
Chloe Franklin wouldn’t call herself a commitment-phobe, so much as she’s allergic to anything long term. She loves the sexy, sweaty, and intensely hot hours of the night that come before the sun rises, though. Especially when those nights are spent with Search-and-Rescuer Gage McGraw...
Gage loves his job, but there is one thing he’s starting to like more than the rush of a mission—a stacked blonde with a mouth that haunts his dreams. Every time he steps foot in the sleepy town of Beaufort, he hooks up with Chloe. But he’s tired of hooks-ups. He wants more.
Just the sight of Gage gets Chloe's blood going. Hot, bothered, and finally naked, she’s ready for their night to start. But before he takes her, he whispers what his intentions really are…and then the games really begin.
Review
Chloe our MC is a commitment-phobe she
would much rather keep things short and sweet and focus on trying to keep her mother’s
restaurant a float. After the death of her mother she’s determined return the
restaurant to its former glory and make a name for herself. Chloe has lived
in bliss for the last few years, sticking to her guns about avoiding relationships
and just having fun but that all changes once Gage comes into town and demands
more. Gage is a search and rescue officer swooooons and for the past 2 years when he’s needed to help those in the little town of Beaufort he
hooks up with Chloe. After a near death experience Gage is no longer willing to
sit around and play games, he wants more and Chloe is his target.
What I loved about this was the character
twist, the old switcheroo, it was so much fun reading about Gage this big,
strong, alpha male chasing the female, demanding her time and to be taken
seriously. Perhaps I enjoyed this a little too
much as I sometimes found myself cheering Chloe on for staying strong
because god knows I would have little willpower. Naturally Chloe
decides to play Gage at his own game, allowing him to believe she’s caved and
is willing to give this a try but in fact she’s quite the vixen and she’s
convinced she can slowly wear him down and see sense…. that is until Gage puts
their fiery ‘relationship’ on hold; No romance, No sex! Absolute genius, I tell
you.
The story is told from Chloe and Gage’s POV
which made it that bit more fun, watching them trying to gain the
upper hand in this so called ‘relationship’. Apart from those fun and downright
scorching sexy-times -which I am all for don’t get me wrong- it was so nice to
delve into the venerable side of these characters and watch as they overcomes
their own obstacles and ideals and to finally come to a heartwarming
conclusion.
However not only was this a great book with
great characters but the secondary characters: Natalie and Easton were amazing.
Natalie’s is Chloe’s best friend and Easton’s was Gage’s, these two just
cracked me up, they were sarcastic, funny, honest and they have my very own guilty pleasure relationship – their enemies. How I love nothing more than the angst
and tension that comes with hate turning into love and I am absolutely thrilled
that Joya will be writing their story next, I simply can’t wait for it! I’ve
been bitten by the Joya Ryan bug and I cannot wait to check out more of her
wonderful work. Natalie and East, please.
1) Firstly, tell us a little bit about yourself?
Well, I grew up in a small town and now live in a big city. I love getting presents for people but am terrible at keeping it a secret, so you’ll likely get a Christmas gift from me in July. And I’ll eat avocado on anything and ketchup on nothing. Seriously…ketchup is the devil…
2) When did you realize you wanted to become a writer?
I’ve always loved writing. I wrote short stories and poems since grade school and daydreamed way too much. But I just loved the world inside my brain more than the real one.
3) What is your favorite part of writing?
I love the writing can be anything you want it to be. You have the chance to be expressive and unique in your own way.
4) Where do you come up with your inspiration to create new books and new characters?
The people around me! I’ll meet someone, or base a character off of one of my friends. There are actual conversations I’ve had with my sister sprinkled throughout most of my books. So if you cross paths with me, you’re ending up in a book. You’ve been warned!
5) You’ve written and released so many books; do you have a writing process that helps you with this?
I’d like to say yes! But no…not really. It’s mostly just caffeine and adrenaline. Sure, I plot things out, have my outline and basic direction. But I write whenever, wherever I can and just try to get words on the page as often as possible. I do a fast draft first, which is an unpolished nightmare of random words that I go back and make pretty in the second draft.
6) What inspired you to create Chloe and Gage and their type of relationship?
My editor and I actually had a discussion about it. We thought it would be a fun twist to make the woman the one who wasn’t all into romance. Having this big strong alpha male wanting to talk about feelings and this woman rolling her eyes and reaching for his belt just seemed kind of fun!
7) What made you choose to write Contemporary romance novels?
I’ve always loved, love. Happy endings with a bit of pain and torture leading up to the big “I can’t live without you” moment just makes my heart happy. There’s nothing better than the idea of being special; not to mention wanted and needed by another person. And that is was I love to write about.
8) What are you working on right now and what can we expect from you in the future?
I’m working on book three in the Search and Seduce Series, which is about Easton and Natalie. I have several more Brazens scheduled to come over the next couple years as well as some other contemporary romances. All of which have spicy sexy time scenes and a whole lot of tension!
9) What are some of your favorite Contemporary romance books?
I love anything by Marina Adair. My first romance novel was Eternity by Jude Deveroux and to this day is my favorite because it changed my life and made me realize I wanted to write about love.
10) Tough Question, I’m sorry but it has to be asked. Out of all the characters you have written, who is your favorite?
ARGH!!! This is the HARDEST question ever! Of course, I have to be a good mama and say, “I love them all equally but in different ways…” However, Kate from Break Me Slowly has a special place in my heart, as does Colt from Chasing Trouble. Those were my first two books and those characters still hold a big piece of my soul.
